Hi⦠itās me, JJ.
I want to tell you about something that happened.
I went to Ellijay with Serena. There were a lot of people there⦠and a lot of dogs.
At first, I thought I was just there to say hi.
You know⦠smile, meet people, maybe sign a few books.
But something else happened.
I started noticing things.
Some dogs were running around, playing, wagging their tails.
Some were loud.
Some were excited.
And someā¦
just sat.
There was one dog I couldnāt stop looking at.
Not because he was loud.
Not because he was playing.
Because he wasnāt.
He was sitting a little away from the others⦠just watching.
If you werenāt really looking, you might miss him.
So I did what Uno taught me.
I looked for clues.
- His eyes
- The space between him and everyone else
- The way he held his body
And then I understood something.
He wasnāt being āquiet.ā
He was waiting.
That stayed with me.
Because I realized there are a lot of dogs like that.
Not loud.
Not seen.
Not chosen.
Not because they donāt have a storyā¦
but because people donāt always see the clues.
So I told Uno:
āWe need to help them.ā
And he said:
āThen we start with one.ā
Thatās what Adopt-a-Heart is.
Itās how we help tell their stories.
Itās how we help people see what they might have missed.
Because sometimesā¦
being seen changes everything.

or know one with a storyā¦

Letās make sure every heart gets a chance to be seen.
