Meet the Forest of Friends pets from MeMe, JJ & Friends, including MeMe, JJ, Tank, and Tuffie, real animal characters who help children learn about emotions, friendship, trust, patience, and kindness.
Meet the Forest of Friends Pets
The Forest of Friends pets are more than characters in a children’s book series. They are inspired by real animals with real personalities, real emotions, and real stories that help children understand friendship, trust, courage, patience, kindness, and belonging.

In the MeMe, JJ & Friends world, each pet teaches something different. MeMe brings patience and nervous energy. JJ brings kindness, heart, and gentle correction. Tank helps children think about trust, healing, and strength. Tuffie shows what it can look like when a guarded heart slowly learns to feel safe.
These Forest of Friends pets help children explore big feelings through animal characters they can understand. Before a child has to talk directly about their own emotions, they can begin with the pets. What does MeMe notice? Why does JJ respond gently? What helped Tank trust again? Why does Tuffie protect herself before opening her heart?
This page introduces the real animal personalities behind the stories and shows how each pet supports emotional learning, visual observation, and meaningful conversations with children.
How the Forest of Friends Pets Support VNEC
The Forest of Friends pets help children practice VNEC, or Visual-Narrative Emotional Comprehension. VNEC teaches children to slow down, look closely at illustrations, notice body language, facial expressions, posture, and character choices, then use those clues to think about what a character may be feeling.
Each pet brings a different emotional lesson. MeMe helps children notice courage, patience, and friendship. JJ shows gentleness, loyalty, and trust. Tank helps children understand healing, strength, and emotional change. Tuffie shows what it can look like when a guarded heart slowly learns to feel safe.
Instead of asking children to explain their own feelings first, VNEC lets them begin with the story. A child can look at a pet’s expression, position, or reaction and ask, “What do I see?” From there, the child can begin to make an emotional inference and connect the picture to the words in the story.
Through the Forest of Friends pets, children can explore big feelings, friendship, empathy, trust, and belonging in a safe and gentle way.
