About MeMe jj and friends

MeMe, JJ & Friends, a rescue pet series about friendship, healing, and emotional learning.

Meet Serena Noreen Brown, children book author and her rescue pet whose stories are about friendship, healing, and emotional learning.
Each MeMe, JJ & Friends story introduces a relatable character and moment that reflects real emotions children experience but don’t always know how to express. Instead of starting with the child, teachers and students begin with the story — creating a neutral, safe space where everyone can participate.
The stories model noticing rather than judging. Characters observe changes, express concern, and respond with care. This gives teachers natural language they can use in the classroom and helps students learn how to recognize emotions in themselves and others without pressure or labels. Reflection prompts and SEL companion activities extend the story into guided discussion. These tools help teachers ask thoughtful questions, include quieter students, and encourage empathy, understanding, and connection at a pace that feels safe for everyone.
Through shared storytelling, consistent characters, and gentle reflection, teachers and students build a common emotional vocabulary — strengthening trust, communication, and belonging in the classroom.

Children’s Book Author Inspired by Rescue Pets

Serena Noreen Brown is the creator of MeMe, JJ & Friends, a children’s book series inspired by real rescue pets, real emotions, and the relationships that help children understand friendship, trust, courage, and healing.

The heart of the series comes from observing animals closely and noticing how their stories can help children talk about feelings. Through characters like MeMe, JJ, Tuffie, Tank, Lexus, and Uno, young readers can explore emotional moments in a safe and memorable way.

The series also connects to VNEC, or Visual-Narrative Emotional Comprehension, an approach that helps children slow down, observe illustrations, notice emotional clues, compare those clues with the words, and connect story moments to real-life understanding.

Through MeMe, JJ & Friends, rescue pet stories become more than animal adventures. They become a bridge between reading, emotional learning, visual observation, and meaningful conversations with children.

Why Rescue Pet Stories Matter

The MeMe, JJ & Friends series began with real pets and real moments. Each character carries a different personality, emotional pattern, or relationship lesson that children can recognize through story. MeMe brings heart. JJ brings curiosity and connection. Tuffie shows guarded feelings and trust. Tank, Lexus, and Uno help children see strength, healing, big emotions, and problem-solving.

As a childrens book author inspired by rescue pets, Serena Noreen Brown uses animal characters to help children talk about feelings in a safer way. A child may notice what a pet is doing, how close the characters are standing, or how a character reacts before they are ready to talk about their own emotions.

That is also why VNEC fits naturally with the series. The stories invite children to slow down, observe visual clues, compare those clues with the words, and build emotional understanding through reading.
