Today, I said goodbye to JJ—the little dog who changed everything.
More than ten years ago, JJ was a shelter dog waiting for someone to choose him. I brought him home and promised him that he would never have to wonder where he belonged again. He was in his forever home.
But the truth is, JJ rescued me too.
He became my companion, my family, and the heart behind MeMe, JJ & Friends. His life inspired books, stories, lessons, apps, and a mission to help children understand emotions and help other rescue animals find homes of their own.
JJ became an author’s muse, an Observation Coach, a shelter advocate, and a little ambassador for friendship, belonging, and second chances. He showed the world that you do not have to be big to leave an enormous mark.
Even during his final days, JJ showed his strength. I gave him every chance I could to recover, and when his body could no longer continue, I made sure he knew I was there. He left this world knowing that he was loved, chosen, and home.
JJ’s story does not end here.
He will remain in every book he inspired, every child he helps teach, every rescue story shared through Adopt-a-Heart, and every part of the work that carries his name. Future generations may meet JJ as a character, a coach, and a friend—but I had the extraordinary blessing of knowing and loving the real JJ.
