Uno, Rikki-Tikki, and What They Almost Missed

Uno raced ahead, his paws kicking up dust as he darted down the path.

“Come on!” he barked. “You’re too slow!”

Behind him, Tank walked steadily, while a small, quick-moving figure slipped quietly through the grass.

Rikki-Tikki.

Uno skidded to a stop. “Wait… where did you come from?”

Rikki-Tikki paused, whiskers twitching. “I’ve been here,” he said calmly.

Uno blinked. “I didn’t even see you.”

Tank stepped forward. “That’s because you were moving too fast.”

Uno frowned. “I was just excited.”

Rikki-Tikki tilted his head. “Excitement is good. But sometimes, when you rush… you miss things.”

Uno looked around.

Really looked this time.

He noticed the way the grass shifted slightly before Rikki-Tikki moved.
The small sounds.
The tiny details he hadn’t seen before.

“Oh…” Uno said quietly. “You were here the whole time.”

Rikki-Tikki nodded.

Tank smiled. “Sometimes, you have to slow down to see what’s already there.”

Uno’s tail wagged, slower now.

“I think I get it,” he said. “It’s not just about looking… it’s about noticing.”

And this time, when they walked forward, Uno didn’t run ahead.

He stayed close.

Watching.

Not missing a thing.
